About the area

What Bailey Is Like

Bailey grew up as a depot town after the railroad laid its first tracks through the township in 1907. The town was incorporated in 1908, and by 1919 it had a small tobacco market.

The Country Doctor Museum, founded in 1967 and now part of East Carolina University, is set in two restored 1800s doctors’ offices on Peele Road. Every May, the Bailey Chamber of Commerce holds the NC Sweetpotato Festival on Main Street.
